Province funds CSTEC’s regional training consortia

The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment (MEDT) recently granted CSTEC with funding under the Youth Jobs Strategy. CSTEC’s objectives will be to expand an existing regional training consortium, the Hamilton Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Consortium (HSTAC), by recruiting additional employers, increasing the number of apprenticeship work term offerings, helping expand the range of training offered, and promoting youth participation in skilled trades training.

The project aims to recruit one or more community colleges in the GTA to work with employers in the region to establish new training consortia, similar to HSTAC but tailored to meet the needs of the regional employers. Considerable effort will be expended to build the regional partnership, promote the use of consortia as a means to facilitate skilled trades training, and to recruit employers to participate.
