Ontario Bridge Training Program
If you worked in manufacturing or an industrial trade before coming to Canada, you should not automatically have to start your career over again.
You Already Have Industrial Skills.
Build on Them in Ontario.
CSTEC’s Ontario Bridge Training Program helps internationally trained workers understand how their previous education, training and work experience can connect to Ontario’s industrial trades.
The objective is to help you move toward employment, apprenticeship or certification without unnecessarily repeating training you have already completed.

Move From Manufacturing Into the Industrial Trades
Skills Advance Ontario helps manufacturing workers build the skills required for higher-skilled industrial careers. The program is designed around practical training that builds on the experience workers already have rather than assuming everyone needs to start from the beginning.

Your International Experience Matters
You may have previous experience as a:
- Millwright or industrial mechanic
- Machinist
- Welder
- Industrial maintenance worker
- CNC or machine operator
- Automation or production technician
- Other skilled industrial worker
One of the biggest challenges can be determining how international industrial experience fits within Ontario’s apprenticeship, certification and employment systems.
CSTEC can help you understand what you already have—and what you may still need.
We May Be Able to Help With
Depending on your experience and career goal, support can include:
- Industrial skills training
- Apprenticeship level training
- Skilled Trades Ontario Trade Equivalency Assessments
- Apprenticeship exemption testing
- Certificate of Qualification exam preparation
- Exam tutoring
- CWB welding certification
The program is designed to complement your previous experience rather than duplicate it.
Who Is It For?
Participants must generally:
- Be at least 18 years old and live in Ontario;
- Have eligible newcomer status;
- Have international education or training and work experience in a skilled occupation; and
- Meet the language requirements associated with their occupation or certification pathway.
If you receive Employment Insurance, you may be able to continue receiving EI while participating in approved full-time training. This must be arranged before training starts.
Tell Us Where You Want to Go
You don’t need to know exactly which course you need.
Tell us about your work experience, the skills you already have and the type of industrial work you are interested in. CSTEC can help identify a training pathway that makes sense for you.
Don’t Start Over. Find the Gap.
You may not need another full training program.
You may need a certification, an apprenticeship level, an assessment, targeted upgrading or simply help finding an employer that understands the skills you already have.
Tell us what you did before coming to Canada. CSTEC can help you determine the shortest realistic pathway back into your industrial occupation in Ontario.
